  • Skip the boat afternoon. The resort pool is where the kids want to be anyway.
  • The ADO bus to the airport costs a tenth of a private shuttle.

Costs people forget

  • Quintana Roo's Visitax, about $15 per person, paid online before you fly home.
  • Resort fees and taxes added at checkout, even at all-inclusives.
  • Reef-safe sunscreen, required at the parks and expensive to buy there.
  • Passports for the kids, which take weeks and cost $135 each for first-timers.
